"Deep crimson, almost inky in colour, the perfumed blackberry and spice on the nose is evident. The palate is fruit-driven with myriad of dark berry fruits; peppery spice adds to the mix. The oak appears to be minimal, as do the tannins. The alcohol comes across as more evident on the palate and so it should be at 15 per cent (rrp$25)" McMahon May 2010

Pig in the House Shiraz 2008 - organic. Mixed red fruits on the nose, medium weight with long, even top notes that are well supported by acid/tannin. [89 points]. The most expensive wine in the line up and one that did well in the tasting but a lot of competition out there at $25”
Key Report Dec 2009

In the mouth, a big rush of fruit flavour. The entry is very flavoursome, with dark berries and a sense of immediacy that speaks of freshness and the happy bursting of blueberries. Things only get fresher and fruitier towards the middle palate, though at this point one also realises there are some chocolate-like tannins that are quite assertive and which certainly hold things together”

“Jason said ... 'Growing organically gives a true reflection of what can be done in this climate and soil - what a Cabernet tastes like from this bit of dirt in this bit of the world, and that's important to me'”

“Pig in the House Shiraz 2008 $25
Jason O'Dea, son of David and Elizabeth O'Dea, produces this at his own small organic vineyard. A delightful, pure expression of shiraz, very much in Cowra's drink-me-now mould.”

“Pig in the House is another winery turning out a top drop. The vineyard was originally home to 20 free range pigs which had apparently had access everywhere on the farm, including the house. It just may be the spirits of happy little piggies that make these wines so potable.”

“Wine ranges and wine labels are often sought after for the unique factor, where one takes a wine along to a dinner party to be oohed and ached at by guests who only thought of bringing the same wine that they always take, to be safe. If one turns up then with a bottle labeled Pig in the House, you either get accredited for your ability to think laterally, or you don't get invited back. If it is the latter response, the parties are not worth going to in any case... Both of these wines are well worth their purchase price.”

“2007 Pig in the House Shiraz
Strange name, lovely wine. When Jason and Rebecca O'Dea moved into the 1880s house now surrounded by their certified organic vineyard in the Cowra region of NSW, it was home to some free-range pigs. This lovely, floral, spicy Shiraz with its juicy black fruit and firm, snappy finish, walked away with the highest-scoring silver medal of the show.

“Pig in the House Cabernet 2007
This quirkily named wine is produced from grapes grown organically in Cowra, NSW, on a site that was once used as a free-range piggery. It's a very pleasant cabernet with well-balanced fruit and fine tannins - and one that you wil definitely want to 'pig out' on”

“Pig in the House Cabernet 2007
This accredited organic red from a property that was once a pig farm is bound to be a talking point at any dinner party. Deep in colour with berry, mint and dusty oak aromas, this Cab Sav will please on far more than it's story alone. A great match to good pizza and pasta, enjoy it now or up until 2011”
